Tour departures vary with the seasons, however typical Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tours begin late morning from Kona and Waikoloa Hotel areas. We then make our way over Saddle Road, stopping to explore a lava tube and enjoy a picnic lunch. Then on to Hawaii’s second largest city, Hilo. The city’s architecture and local feel create a backdrop for the area’s rich cultural and economic history.
From Hilo, the tour proceeds from the lower Mauna Loa slope to the summit of Kilauea and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park around mid-afternoon. Once at the National Park on Hawaii Island, we pay a visit to the summit caldera to see the current eruption during daylight hours and then immerse ourselves in the landscape and geology by taking a short hike and visiting as many of the park’s climates as possible.
Following an afternoon of exploring, it’s time to sit down and enjoy a comfortable dining experience at Kilauea Lodge, one of the volcano area’s most historic and comfortable dining locations. Meals are pre-ordered and included in the price of the tour. Once dinner is complete, it’s back to the caldera to see the summit’s fiery glow and marvel at the beauty of Kilauea Volcano.
